Dear Hillcrest Families,

The summer is flying by!  We had a very successful summer school for many of our students in June and early July.  We are busy making sure that our school is ready for the 2017-2018 school year.  I do hope you are taking the time to enjoy your friends and family.  I also hope you have had a chance to visit the HCES media center or the Burke County Public Library.  That is your only "job" to do this summer, students, in preparation for the new year is to R E A D !

This year we blend the old and the new.  We are now the Hillcrest Elementary School Cougars.  Our school colors are red and gold.
You will see the hard our custodial and office crews have been at work this summer when you enter our building.  You can find us on Twitter by searching #bestatthecrest  just like before.

See you on August 24 for OPEN HOUSE.  You will get to meet your teachers then.

And the phrase to remember is:  BEST AT THE CREST!  That is really the truth; we really are the BEST at the CREST!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Nikki Costello, and I am excited to join the Hillcrest family as your assistant principal this year.  I am a Burke County native. I graduated from UNC-Asheville and Wake Forest University, and I am beginning my twenty-second year in education.  I have taught middle and high school mathematics and have spent the last five years as an instructional coach.  I am married and have two sons, a rising eighth grader at Liberty and a rising fourth grader at Salem.  I enjoy spending time with my family (lots of sporting events), as well as kayaking.

I look forward to meeting each of you in the upcoming days. Together we will make the 2017-2018 school year a tremendous success for the students of Hillcrest Elementary School.  Go Cougars!
