Mountain Crest Elementary School Media Center is one of 130 libraries across the United States selected as a winner for the 2016 Laura Bush Foundation Library Grant Program. We will be receiving money to help purchase $6,800 dollars worth of books for our media center.
With this additional funding from the Laura Bush Foundation, we will ...
- follow weeding recommendations for all areas of the nonfiction collection, discarding books that are more than 5 years old and replace them with books that provide more relevant and accurate information for collaborative research projects
- remove books that have not
been checked out over the last five years from the fiction collection and replacing them with copies of books the kids will be more interested in reading
- replace some of the books kids read all the time that have gotten worn out through use.... like Dr. Seuss, Curious George, Sponge Bob, Scooby Doo, Geronimo Stilton, etc.
- adding new books to our collection with QR codes that connect to on-line versions of the stories so students can use devices at home to listen to the books they check out from our library.
We are very excited about the opportunities this funding will provide for our students!
